Andrea Charles BA (Hons). Pgrad Dip (GSMD). Dip ABRSM. LRSM
Andrea is a flautist by trade and after completing a Postgraduate in orchestral studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she was also a member of a successful wind ensemble, she spent time playing with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra before going to Malaysia to perform with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. The wonderful instruments and sounds of the Far East were a real highlight of her time there. She helped set up the education programme in Malaysia, taking music to both adults and school children.
Back in England, Andrea has played for opera/musical theatre companies and thoroughly relished the chance to play for the Council for Music in Hospitals, bringing live music to those who can't get to concerts. Andrea is also musical director of the Dorking flute ensemble and enjoys rehearsing groups in Surrey schools and as a teacher at the junior department of the Royal College of Music.
All Andrea's family play instruments and she thinks there is always a good opportunity to make music and improve and so, after 25yrs, decided to start taking more exams, completing her fellowship in 2016.
Enjoy the Festival.
